A pair of conjoined twins known as Love and Prince Zalte have been successfully separated after a team of 20 doctors worked on them for 12 hours beginning from 4am on Tuesday.
The twins born in Mumbai India on the 19th of September, were joined from the lower part of the chest and shared a liver, intestine, bladder and pelvis. The surgeons comprised of pediatric surgeons, anesthetists and orthopedic surgeons, as well as others doctors.
The operating theatres of the hospital were shut down, to enable the team focus on the intricate surgery.
Speaking on the incident, the 26 year old mother of the twins, Sheetal Zalte said she was told about her condition when she was 24 weeks into her pregnancy:
‘It is hard to express in words how happy I will be to hold my children in both my arms.’
The twins are recuperating for the first in their lives, in separate beds and the doctors is yet to give them the green light to go home.
